27/10/2017

A big thank you to Michael and Erin’s Isle who organised for the Sam Maguire to come to the school today. We were very lucky to have Dublin player Evan Comerford from Ballymun Kickhams bring the cup to our school.

Michael reminded the children toplay for their club and hopefully one day they will be bringing Sam back to MDG!

We were all dressed up for crazy hair day so the Cup got a crazy welcome from all the children!

Up the Dubs!!

The Green School committee and Tony and John have been hard at work putting together our Insect hotel!! Thank you to everybody for bringing in old bricks, piping, cardboard and twigs. We still need more so please keep up the great work!!!

Wow just look at the great many things Mrs Lyons and Ms Leahy’s class brought in for MDG’s 5 star Insect Hotel. We got such a variety of materials from bricks, to bamboos, to cardboard, pipes and lots of wood! Our bugs will be delighted!!!!

Talk

03/05/2017

Talk

The Finglas / Cabra HSCL cluster ran a very successful Health Awareness week across the community this term. The children in school participated in lots of lessons and activities based on the theme of ‘Talk’. We had a colouring competition and lots of prizes were won in the classes. The children from 5th and 6th class were involved in an aerial photograph of the word ‘TALK’ in Erin’s Isle on the 31st March. The children from all the schools formed the word ‘TALK’ standing on the pitch and the Garda helicopter took the photograph. A Wellness Fair in Erins’ Isle was very well attended where guest speakers and various groups were present with stalls for people to sample activities and services that are available to them in the local Finglas area. A breakfast and café were present also, providing healthy food for parents. The week was a huge success in school and across the the Finglas/ Cabra community.

Student Council

31/03/2017

Did you know that MDG is setting up a Student Council?

Currently, classes from 3rd to 6th are holding nominations, campaigns and elections for the Student Council! There will be one boy and one girl returned from each class from 3rd to 6th. This will form a council of 16 members!

There will be a special assembly next Thursday (April 6th 2017) to present the council with their badges and the first meeting will be held after Easter!

There will be a lot to discuss at this first meeting-such as how the council will run and what the roles and responsibilities will be.

More on this to follow!

St Patricks Assembly

On Thursday 16th of March, our school had a special St. Patricks Day Assembly. We said special prayers, and then we had some traditional Irish music and dancing, preformed by some of the students in the school.

Engineers Week – Gas Networks Trip

A few weeks ago, some students from 6th class went to Bord Gais Networks in Finglas as part of Engineers Week. They had a super day, and took part in different workshops, such as Mystery at Maggies Manor, Bones, Rainbows to Lasers and Fuel for Thought.

After the workshops, they went on a tour of Lamplighters Row, were Gas Networks train their staff to find leaks in homes, and also got to see how gas pipes are fitted. It was really interesting and we had a fantastic day!

Well Done MDG!!!!!

We had such a great day on Wednesday March 15th for Biodiversity!!

Everyone dressed in green and we raised €525 for Dogs Aid!! The Green Schools committee worked very hard guiding classes all day long around our Biodiversity garden. We spotted robins, magpies, thrush and a squirrel.

We Love Science!

21/03/2017

Room 2 experimented with our senses.

In second class we set up stations to discover how we use our senses. We used sound boxes for hearing. We used blind folds for sight. We used smelling jars for smell, some were a bit whiffy like the onion! We used a feely box for touch and then we got to eat some sweet and salty treats for taste!!!

MDG’s Book Club

21/03/2017

Book club 2017 has got off to a great start. Third class children are busy reading Legend of the Worst Boy in the World by Eoin Colfer. Last week the children tweeted Eoin Colfer to tell him how much they love reading  his books. Watch this space to see if we get a reply! Book Club will begin for fourth class after the mid term break.
