My new teacher had the idea of constructing with marshmallows and pasta sticks in my class. My friends and I thought it would be easy but it was actually very hard. We tried building a spire but it kept toppling over so we settled on building a house. When we finished the house fell a bit on its side but luckily it stayed up. My friends and I called it “the leaning house of marshmallows”. by Kristina
MDG celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year. Are you a past pupil? What are your memories of the school? Have you any old class photos?

Thank you to Ann McDonnell for emailing this photograph of Ms. Quinlan’s 1972 Confirmation class.
There are lots of photographs on the 50th Anniversary pages on the main school website www.mdgballygall.scoilnet.ie.
Well done to the junior part of the school on their beautiful Christmas Concert. Early Start, Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Classes entertained parents and guardians in the school hall. The hall was full to capacity! A big thank you to all their teachers, SNAs and helpers for all the hard work put in to producing the show.
We were very lucky to have a visit from Santa Claus to our school. He gave presents to all classes and classes sang songs for him. He had to dash away back to The North Pole to prepare for Christmas Eve. Thanks Santa and the Parents’ Association for organising the visit!
A big thank you to Garda Dave and to Mrs Fahy for organising a visit by the Garda Band to our school on Friday 16th December 2011. A great afternoon was had by all. The band entertained the whole school with a selection of Christmas Carols and there was even some dancing too!
Advent is the time when we prepare for Christmas. We are preparing for Christmas in many ways in school. We are having prayer services to count down the weeks in Advent. We are using an Advent Wreath, and each week another candle is lit. We also had a very special prayer service in honour of Mary, Mother of God, on the 8th of December.

Here is an Advent Wreath
We are also preparing for Christmas in many other ways too. We are preparing our concerts to put on show for our parents and guardians. The Junior Concert will be on Tuesday 20th December at 11:00 and the Senior Concert will be on Wednesday 21st December at 12:00.

This week is friendship week in MDG. We are a telling school and we believe that bullying is wrong.
You should be good to other people.
Don’t laugh at other people.
Respect people’s ideas
Respect people’s property.
Never hurt another person.
If someone hurts you speak up. You can tell your mum or dad. You can tell a teacher or SNA. You can tell your best friend to tell a teacher or SNA. by R, J, A and L
